La válvula de control de aire inactivo (válvula IAC), o actuador inactivo, es una válvula controlada electrónicamente montada en el cuerpo del acelerador para regular el flujo de aire de derivación hacia el colector de admisión. Por lo general, consta de un motor de CC, un tornillo de avance y un codificador óptico para ajustar con precisión la posición de la válvula. Durante condiciones de ralentí —como cuando está estacionado o en punto muerto—, la ECU ajusta dinámicamente la apertura de la válvula IAC en función de los cambios de carga del motor (como la activación de CA o la dirección) para mantener un ralentí suave, evitar paradas y garantizar una combustión eficiente con emisiones controladas del tubo de escape. Los problemas comunes incluyen la acumulación de carbono que provoca que la válvula se atasque, esté inactiva de manera inestable, tiemble o se detenga; una limpieza o reemplazo exhaustivo generalmente restaura el funcionamiento adecuado.
